I have given myself a challenge: to go out every day to take a portrait of someone I
don’t know. Click One Portrait a Day to visit the blog.
Since you are reading this it meant that
doomsday did not come true yesterday; probably because the calendar and time is a man made concept anyway. But it gives plenty of
nutters something to talk about on chatrooms. In this digital age everthing moves on too quickly and many only slow down when upgrading the software on their tablet computer.
Guy here on the other hand is a man of hand craft and old techniques. He works with photography the slow way, using alternative processing and printing methods. It makes me miss the time some years ago when I shot everything analogue and actually met other people - in the darkroom and lab - instead of my computer.

I have been doing this blog for nearly two years. During this time I have always been approaching people in the street, shop or similar. Now I am getting the subjects to come to me. For one week I will be running
a pop-up studio on Chatsworth Road in Clapton, starting 27th November. And the good thing;
everyone photographed will receive a free print! . Reece, Ahso and Kashaun live in the area and are coming to get their portrait taken. So should you!

I was pretty ignorant to some music as a teenager and thought for some time that
Knocking on Heavens Door was an original
Guns'n'Roses song. Michael here on the other hand was knocking on houses in
Chatsworth Road today for the e
lectoral roll. Most people didn't bother to open even though he shouted as well as ringing and knocking on the door. Michael is doing this as a temporary job together with his sister. This is his third week.

One good thing about the lack of space and small houses in London is that people take things to the streets or parks. Sean from Tucson, Arizona, who is staying in London for a few months, was practising his double bass in Hackney Downs park today. It was a great sound track to cycle past at this autumnal day.

Muhammad in his shop
PC Clinic in brand new space on Chatsworth Road, London. Muhammad had to move from his old shop three doors down the road after his previous
landlord demanded triple rent to renew the lease. Some people don't have any heart what so ever.

"It Will Grow Back" is the best name for a hairdresser I have ever seen. Sadly it is gone now replaced by something hip on Kingsland Road. This is Esmine in her hairdresser
Diva Style on Chatsworth Road in London. She has been a regular customer for more than a year and comes her twice a month to get her hair done. What she likes most about this neigbourhood is the community spirit.

Sundays have gone from being my least favourite to my most favourite day of the week. Maybe because where I grew up there was not much to do on a Sunday except smashing lightbulbs on garages and playing football. The lightbulbs got me in trouble and I am not a very good football player. In Clapton where I now live there is the
Chatsworth Road Market every Sunday. A great place to hang out, eat food from around the world, drink coffee and talk about gentrification... The creative man's dream world. This morning I met Salomon who was heading for church. With a tie like his I am sure God will give him some attention. His mum runs an African take-away on the same road which I am sure you will be reading about soon.

I have heard that Lea River in Clapton is one of the most polluted in the country, but it doesn't mean it is a bad place to hang out. They will proably clean it in due course for the Olypmics next year anyway. Laura and Tom decided to bring their morning coffee and chill by the river today.

Thogdon and Octavia outside their soon to be cake shop Cakey Muto on Chatsworth Road, London. I am sure this will be a success because they have no experience in this type of business. That's how real people play rock'n'roll!

Basketball was invented in Massachettes,USA, in 1891 to keep gym classes active with sports indoors on rainy days. Since then the game has developed a lot and moved outdoors too. My local park has a few courts and today I cycled past when Joshua, Murkz, Ahley and Ahmed were shooting hoops.

In my experience on The Autobahn in Germany a typical Audi driver often gets way too close to the car in front - they are usually very arrogant people. Tom Inge here was not arrogant but he is selling his Audi to buy a more economically friendly car to use for work. It was sunset when I met him in
Stavern and he was taking photos of his car. I am sure he'll sell it because most things look fantastic in sunset-light.

Alfred reading the paper in his combined house and shop. He's lived here for 25 years or so and judging by everything outside and inside his house he must have collected stuff for at least the same period. All the stuff is for sale and you can't miss it! His friend told me Alfred is the most photographed man in Norway. Apparantly every German tourist stop to take phots when they see his house close to
Kvam on the
E6 when driving past.

The more money people have the more they seem to pay them for guidance in life; how to work out, how to stop taking pills their doctor told them to take a few years earlier, how to stop drinking alcohol, how to eat healthily, scientology, what to wear, what music to listem to, what to do on a holiday etc. Basically they can buy guidance for everything in life except authenticity. The dog Lynton is being trained by Francesca to become a guide-dog. I reckon that is money well worth spent on guidance. Lynton and Francesca had a break from the training at Westfield Shopping Centre in Stratford City when I caught up with them.

Zebra crossings were first used in 1949 in the UK. The most famous one I can off is on
Abbey Road. In 1980 on holiday in Poland I was hit by a car when we visited the then East German border. I was only 5 and my parents were fined for not holding my hand while I was crossing the road. Bria (in today's portrait) was out enjoying the indian summer evening in Clapton when I cycled passed her on my way home.
She had no problems crossing the roads, just like this woman.
